How to get a raw email header

Most email clients hide the raw source by default. Here's how to find it in the three you're most likely using:

How do I get the raw email header from Gmail?
Open the message → click the three-dot menu (top right) → choose "Show original". Copy everything in the box that appears.
How do I get it from Outlook (web)?
Open the email → click the ⋯ menu → View → "View message source". Copy the result.
How do I get it from Apple Mail?
Open the email → View menu → Message → Raw Source. Copy and paste.

What we check, in plain English

  • SPF authentication. Was the sending IP authorised by the SPF record of the domain in the Return-Path?
  • SPF alignment. Does that domain match the visible From address?
  • DKIM verification. We compute the signature using your published public key and compare. Real verification, not just "is a signature present".
  • DKIM alignment. Does the signing domain (d=) align with your From? This is the #1 silent killer.
  • DMARC compliance. Does at least one of SPF or DKIM pass and align? If not, your email is at the mercy of the receiver's spam filter.
  • Blacklist sweep. We check the sending IP across 15 major DNSBLs in parallel.

FAQ

What does the analyzer check?

SPF authentication and alignment, DKIM signature verification and alignment, DMARC compliance, the full relay chain with timing, and a sweep of 15 major DNS blacklists.

Why does it matter if SPF "authenticates" but isn't "aligned"?

Authentication means the sending server was allowed to send. Alignment means the domain that authorised it matches your From address. DMARC requires BOTH. Most silent deliverability failures are alignment problems.

Is this MXToolbox?
