Conductor vs Smartlead
Smartlead is a serious tool with real deliverability depth. Two differences matter: Conductor gates every single send on your live deliverability, and it starts free and bills only for what you send, where Smartlead starts at a flat $39 a month. If you are weighing a Smartlead alternative, here is the fair version, pricing included.
Who each is for.
- • You run high-volume outbound across many inboxes and want deep deliverability tooling alongside it
- • You want the biggest MCP surface in the category, 116+ tools, on an account you have already set up
- • You prefer a flat monthly plan you can budget around
- ✓ You want sending gated on live deliverability, with auto-pause on bounce or spam spikes
- ✓ You want deliverability fixed for you in one click, not just measured
- ✓ You want an AI agent to go from nothing to a running campaign over API or MCP, no dashboard step
- ✓ You want to start free and pay only for what you send, not a flat fee from day one
- ✓ You want a copy-quality gate built in
To be clear about where Smartlead is strong: sending scale, deliverability depth, and the largest official MCP in the space. Conductor does not try to beat it on volume.
Feature by feature.
A fair table. Where Smartlead is stronger, it says so.
| Feature | Conductor | Smartlead |
|---|---|---|
| Deliverability diagnosis + one-click fix | Yes. Free SPF, DKIM, DMARC and blocklist check with plain-English fixes you can apply in one click. | Smartlead has genuinely strong deliverability tooling. It is one of its best-known strengths. |
| Live-deliverability gated sending | Yes. Every send is checked against your live deliverability. Sending auto-pauses on bounce or spam spikes. | No. Deliverability tools inform you, but sending is not gated on them. |
| Automatic warm-up | Yes. Fresh inboxes ramp automatically before cold sends go out. | Yes. Warm-up is a core Smartlead feature. |
| List verification | Yes, built in. Invalid addresses are skipped at send time. 500 free per month. | Yes, verification is available. |
| Copy-quality gate | Yes. A free lint scores every step, and block mode refuses launches that score under 60. | No launch-blocking copy check. |
| Reply triage and after-reply handling | Yes. Every reply is classified automatically, bounces and out-of-office are handled for you, sequences pause the moment someone replies positively, and a confirmation draft with your booking link is ready to send. | Partly. The Master Inbox centralizes and categorizes replies, but there is no confirmation draft prepared for you to send. |
| Run from nothing via API / MCP | Yes. An agent can go from zero to a running campaign entirely over the API or the 33-tool MCP server. No dashboard step. | An official MCP with 116+ tools, the deepest in the category, for driving an existing account. |
| Sending volume | Deliberately paced. Warm-up ramps, daily caps and send windows. Not built for maximum volume. | Built for high volume across many inboxes. |
| Contact database | No. Bring your own list, we verify it. | No built-in database. Bring your own list. |
| Price model | Usage-priced, free to start. 1,000 sends and 500 verifications free each month, then $0.002 per send. No flat fee, ever. | Flat plans from $39/mo (Base) to $379/mo (Unlimited Prime). You pay the full monthly fee from your first send. |

What you'll actually pay.
This is the part most comparison tables skip. Smartlead charges a flat monthly fee from your first send. Conductor starts free and bills only for what you send, so at the volumes most teams actually run, it costs a fraction as much.
| If you send | Conductor | Smartlead |
|---|---|---|
| Getting started (about 1,000 emails a month) | Free | $39/mo Base, about $468 a year |
| Growing (about 6,000 emails a month) | About $10/mo | $39/mo Base |
| Scaling (about 25,000 emails a month) | About $48/mo | $94 to $174/mo (Pro or Unlimited Smart) |
Conductor pricing: 1,000 sends and 500 verifications free every month, then $0.002 per send and $0.005 per verification, no flat fee. Smartlead prices are list prices as of mid-2026. One fair caveat: Conductor sends through your own connected mailbox, so you bring your inboxes, while Smartlead's flat plans include unlimited inboxes and warmup, which is real value at very high volume. The saving is largest at the low-to-mid volumes where most senders start.
Why teams switch: the closed loop.
Smartlead gives you good instruments. The gap is between measuring deliverability and acting on it automatically, on every send, before damage is done.
Measured is not gated
Monitoring tells you your reputation slipped. A gate stops the next send until it recovers. Conductor checks live deliverability before each send and auto-pauses on bounce or spam spikes, so the damage stops at the signal, not the report.
From nothing, no dashboard
Smartlead has the deepest MCP in the category for an account you have already set up. Conductor is built so an agent can do the whole thing over API or MCP: connect a mailbox, fix DNS, verify a list, launch. No dashboard step anywhere.
Honest about limits
No tool can promise the inbox, including this one. What Conductor can do is refuse to send when the signals say it will not land, and lint your copy before launch, which is the part most tools skip.

The domain check is free and takes seconds, no signup. If it comes back clean, great. If not, Conductor fixes it before anything sends.
